Week in Review

This week has been quite the whirlwind! I started off with some exciting things to look forward to and ended it by…curling into the fetal position on my couch with a ridiculous earache (which is where I’m writing this blog post from). Here, a rundown of some of this week’s highlights:

Monday: Sold a bed I’ve been hanging onto for nearly a year. Treated my guy to burritos for dinner. Went to see an amazing (!) concert by New Found Glory with two friends of mine.

Tuesday: Started a data training in a lab I work with at school. Also started a summer heavy metal bowling league. (Yes, you read that right. I’m on a heavy metal bowling league. That’s a story for another time.)

Wednesday: Second day of data training. Did laundry. (Woohoo!).

Thursday: Started getting sick. Lab meeting. Went to the Kickoff Ride and Party for Pedalpalooza!

Friday: Had lunch with my cohort, since one of our members will be relocating to the east coast for a summer internship. Had a picnic in the park with my guy. Earaches = BOO.

Currently, my weekend plans include: resting as much as it takes to feel better, watching the World’s Naked Bike Ride tomorrow night, and going to a friend’s birthday potluck on Sunday night. If I can get my health back, it should be a fun weekend!

What a Week

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday night. I’m exhausted, and I feel like these weeks are slipping away from me quicker than I can keep count of them. Overall, other than that it’s been busy, I don’t have too many complaints about this week. To sum it up thus far…

Monday: I had a super productive meeting with one of my research advisors and was also able to squeeze in a hot yoga class (only one this week so far, boo).

Tuesday: I had a lovely Valentine’s Day that included a three-hour video chat dinner date with my significant other. We even got dressed up and actually made ourselves dinner at the same time (despite the time difference). It was wonderful, and just what I needed to take my mind off the stress of school. Although I did end up staying up pretty late afterwards to stay on top of work…

Wednesday: Lab meeting, a panel presentation on publishing in grad school (chock full of super good information—I should write a post on this soon!), a conference call that fell through, and a decent workout.

Thursday: Two classes and a early-morning request for a time sensitive project that ended up having me at school until from 7am – 7pm tonight. Oof. Missed my run as a result. On the bright side, I gave a lecture for a friend’s class today, and I felt really good about it! I’ve been fretting about this for the past couple of weeks, and felt so nervous about it before the class today, but as it usually happens, I was fine as soon as I started talking. It was a pretty large class, and a small group of students had some really good (and tough!) questions for me throughout, which made it so much more enjoyable. Some of the questions were things faculty members asked me at my thesis proposal and defense! Afterwards, one of the students actually came up and thanked me for my presentation and complimented me on how comfortable I seemed giving it. While I haven’t had too many opportunities to teach thus far, I’ve definitely loved doing it when I’ve been able to. In fact, I think I’m going to take the opportunity to give this same lecture for my friend when he teaches again next quarter!

Tomorrow/Friday: Two meetings on-campus scheduled. Other than that…I need to get some of my own work done, including a stats midterm that’s due next Tuesday. Gah.

Week Recap

This past week, I…

-Kept myself quite busy (as usual).

-Realized I’ve been running myself ragged—and proceeded to take a 2 hour nap to fix that!

-Did some major painting with a few friends of mine yesterday. Thankfully with a little teamwork, we got the job done in an hour and a half!

-Spent a few hours traipsing around my old neighborhood.

-Enjoyed a Spicy Thai PB&J (yes, you read that correctly) from one of my favorite food carts.

-Hit up a 75% off book sale (eep!) and walked out with a brand new $30 cookbook and four other paperback books for a total of $6.25.

-Spent some quality sibling time on Skype with my little brother.

-Spray-painted a giant cabinet I bought a few weeks ago. Pictures to be posted tomorrow!

-Explored a street fair taking place in my neighborhood. Got an ice cream cone and an iced coffee—for free! (As my Dad likes to say, “If it’s for free, it’s for me!”)

-Engaged in a little retail therapy. For under $40, I got a brand new pair of flats and running shorts from Gap, an adorable pair of wedges from Buffalo Exchange, and a vintage white and red polka dot blouse. This was my end-of-summer-treat. I may be going on another shopping hiatus very soon!

-Ran a total of 12 miles (needed a little break!).

-Went to 3 hot yoga classes.
